2027 Honda Passport Trims Explained for Eastern Maine Drivers: RT-L, TrailSport and Elite

The 2027 Honda Passport comes in three trims: RT-L ($45,195), TrailSport ($49,995) and TrailSport Elite ($53,695). Two factory versions round out the lineup: the RT-L Towing adds a Class III hitch for +$700, and a Blackout package on the TrailSport and TrailSport Elite adds +$1,500. Every Passport shares a 280-hp 3.5-liter V6, 10-speed automatic, i-VTM4 all-wheel drive, a 5,000-lb tow rating and the full Honda Sensing suite. Stepping up to the TrailSport ($4,800 more) buys real trail hardware: 9.6 inches of ground clearance, all-terrain tires, skid plates, recovery hooks, TrailWatch cameras and a factory hitch. The TrailSport Elite ($3,700 more) adds comfort: perforated leather, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a 12-speaker Bose system and a hands-free liftgate.

In Eastern Maine, the Passport trim question is about winter and the woods. Every trim has all-wheel drive and Snow mode. The TrailSport adds the clearance, all-terrain tires and skid plates for North Maine Woods gravel.

Best value trim?
Our pick is the TrailSport. Its $4,800 premium over the RT-L covers a hitch ($700 on its own as the RT-L Towing), all-terrain tires, skid plates, TrailWatch, a moonroof and a heated wheel.
Is AWD standard?
Yes. Every 2027 Passport has i-VTM4 torque-vectoring all-wheel drive with Trail Torque Logic and seven drive modes.
Which trim tows the most?
They're all rated for 5,000 lbs. The RT-L Towing and every TrailSport come with a factory Class III hitch; the base RT-L needs hitch equipment added.
Which trims have real leather?
The RT-L and the TrailSport Elite. The TrailSport's seats are HondaTex synthetic leather with cloth.
Which trim fits Eastern Maine?
On pavement, including the Park Loop Road in Acadia, the RT-L does everything you need. For the North Maine Woods logging roads, step up to the TrailSport, and add the Elite for ventilated seats and Bose audio.
What's new for 2027?
TrailSport trims sit higher (9.6 in. of clearance), get amber hood lights and a resculpted front, and the TrailSport now gets TrailWatch and a heated wheel.

Trade-offs

The Trade-Offs of Moving Up a Trim

Moving up a trim isn't purely additive. Here's what changes for the worse, so there are no surprises after you sign.

Moving from RT-L to TrailSport

  • Real leather. The TrailSport uses HondaTex synthetic leather and cloth; the RT-L has leather-trimmed seats.
  • Interior color choice. The RT-L offers black or gray; the TrailSport is black only.
  • Fuel economy: 19/25/21 mpg becomes 18/22/20, a 3-mpg drop on the highway.
  • Headroom: front drops from 40.5 to 39.1 in. and rear from 40.7 to 39.6 in., and passenger volume from 119.1 to 115.4 cu ft.
  • Departure angle: 27.1° on the RT-L versus 25.3° on the TrailSport, which trades some departure angle for its 25.4° approach angle and 9.6 in. of clearance.
  • Low-profile height: the TrailSport stands 74.5 in. tall versus 73.1 in., worth checking if you add a roof box.
  • Tire speed rating: the all-terrains are T-rated (113T) versus the RT-L's H-rated all-seasons (110H).
  • Curb weight rises 198 lbs, from 4,478 to 4,676.

Moving from TrailSport to Elite

  • Orange ambient lighting gives way to white, though the steering wheel keeps orange stitching.
  • The matte Shark Gray wheels are replaced by Berlina Black machine-face alloys.
  • Curb weight rises 29 lbs to 4,705. Nothing functional goes away.

Adding Blackout

  • The standard wheel finish. Blackout wheels are black alloys on both TrailSport trims.
  • $1,500, for appearance only. Capability and features don't change.

Five Passport Comparisons, Settled

RT-L vs. RT-L Towing

RT-L $45,195 vs. RT-L Towing $45,895

The $700 difference is the factory Class III hitch with harness and hitch panel. Every Passport is rated for 5,000 lbs, but towing takes hitch equipment, and the Towing version arrives with it. If towing to Branch Lake and the Penobscot River is part of your summer, it's the simpler route.

RT-L Towing vs. TrailSport

RT-L Towing $45,895 vs. TrailSport $49,995

Both have a factory hitch, and $4,100 separates them. The TrailSport adds the trail hardware (clearance, all-terrains, skid plates, TrailWatch) plus a moonroof, heated wheel and 115-volt outlets. The RT-L Towing keeps real leather, a gray interior option and 3 more highway mpg.

TrailSport vs. TrailSport Elite

TrailSport $49,995 vs. TrailSport Elite $53,695

The $3,700 step is all comfort: ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, perforated leather, Bose audio, a hands-free liftgate and rain-sensing wipers. Off-road hardware is identical. If you sit in your Passport through a Eastern Maine summer, the ventilated seats alone make the case.

TrailSport Blackout vs. TrailSport Elite

TrailSport Blackout $51,495 vs. TrailSport Elite $53,695

Only $2,200 apart, these are a style-versus-comfort decision. The Blackout gets the darker look; the Elite gets the comfort upgrades but keeps standard trim. You can have both in the Elite Blackout.

TrailSport Elite vs. Elite Blackout

TrailSport Elite $53,695 vs. TrailSport Elite Blackout $55,195

$1,500 buys black wheels, black badges and black skid garnishes. Everything else is identical.

2027 vs. 2026

2027 Passport Changes

A taller TrailSport

TrailSport trims ride on a reengineered suspension with 9.6 in. of clearance (the RT-L has 8.3 in.) and improved approach, breakover and departure angles over the 2026 TrailSport.

A new TrailSport face

Bigger fender flares, a darker resculpted lower fascia, a reshaped front skid plate and amber LED hood lights.

Elite features move down

The TrailSport now includes TrailWatch and a heated steering wheel, both previously reserved for the TrailSport Elite.

Darker Blackout

Black front and rear fascias join the Blackout package's black wheels and badges.

Smoke Blue Pearl

A new blue replaces Obsidian Blue Pearl on all trims.

Pricing

MSRP rises $245 on the RT-L, $1,345 on the TrailSport and $1,045 on the TrailSport Elite.

On the test drive

What to Check on a Bangor Passport Test Drive

A test drive tells you more than any feature list, if you know what to look for.

  1. Merge onto I-95 or I-395 and feel how the V6 and 10-speed pull. Set adaptive cruise and let it follow traffic.
  2. Have us show you TrailWatch and the Multi-View cameras in the lot; they're most useful at tight trailheads and steep driveways.
  3. On a hot day, try the TrailSport Elite's ventilated seats against the TrailSport's HondaTex. It's the clearest way to judge that $3,700 step.
  4. Measure your garage door if you plan on a roof box. The TrailSport stands 74.5 in. tall before you add anything up top.
  5. Ride in the back of both trims. The TrailSport's moonroof trims rear headroom from 40.7 to 39.6 in.
  6. Towing? Bring your trailer's plug type. The TrailSport hitch has a 7-pin connector; check whether you'll need an adapter.
  7. If you can, take both trims toward the Park Loop Road in Acadia. Listen for the difference between the RT-L's all-season tires and the TrailSport's all-terrains.
  8. Pair your phone and sign into Google built-in during the drive so you're testing your own apps.
  9. Fold the 60/40 rear seat and load what you actually haul: a cooler, a stroller, a kayak paddle. You get 44 cu ft behind the rear seat.

Passport Trim Questions, Answered

How many 2027 Honda Passport trims are there?

Three trims, RT-L, TrailSport and TrailSport Elite, plus three factory versions built on them: RT-L Towing, TrailSport Blackout and TrailSport Elite Blackout.

What is the price of the 2027 Honda Passport?

The RT-L starts at $45,195 MSRP, the RT-L Towing at $45,895, the TrailSport at $49,995, the TrailSport Blackout at $51,495, the TrailSport Elite at $53,695 and the TrailSport Elite Blackout at $55,195. Destination is $1,595, and premium paint adds $455.

What is the difference between the Passport RT-L and TrailSport?

The TrailSport adds off-road hardware: an off-road-tuned suspension with 9.6 in. of ground clearance (vs. 8.3 in.), all-terrain tires, skid plates, recovery hooks, TrailWatch cameras and a factory hitch. It also adds a panoramic moonroof, heated steering wheel and 115-volt outlets. The RT-L keeps leather-trimmed seats, a gray interior option and better fuel economy. The TrailSport costs $4,800 more.

What does the TrailSport Elite add over the TrailSport?

Perforated leather seats, ventilated front seats, heated outboard rear seats, a 700-watt 12-speaker Bose system, second-row climate controls, a hands-free power liftgate with walk away close, rain-sensing wipers, rear-door sunshades and acoustic front-door glass. It costs $3,700 more, and the off-road hardware is the same.

What is the 2027 Passport RT-L Towing?

It's the RT-L with a factory Class III trailer hitch with harness and hitch panel, for $700 more. Every other feature matches the RT-L.

Is the Passport Blackout just cosmetic?

Yes. For $1,500 you get black wheels, black Honda badges and black front and rear skid garnishes; features and capability match the non-Blackout trim.

Is the 2027 Passport AWD or 4WD?

All-wheel drive. Every trim uses Honda's i-VTM4 torque-vectoring AWD with Trail Torque Logic; there's no two-wheel-drive version.

Which 2027 Passport trim is best for Eastern Maine?

For paved drives like the Park Loop Road in Acadia, any Passport works, and the RT-L's all-season tires and mileage suit them. For the North Maine Woods logging roads, the TrailSport's clearance, all-terrain tires and skid plates are worth it.

What is the 2027 Passport towing capacity?

5,000 lbs on every trim when properly equipped. The RT-L Towing and both TrailSport trims include a factory Class III hitch. Honda recommends premium fuel when towing more than 3,500 lbs.

Which 2027 Passport trims have leather seats?

The RT-L has leather-trimmed seats with cloth accents, and the TrailSport Elite has perforated leather. The TrailSport uses durable HondaTex synthetic leather and cloth with orange stitching.

Is the 2027 Passport a three-row SUV?

No. It seats five in two rows. Honda's three-row SUV is the Pilot.

Is the 2027 Passport TrailSport lifted?

It rides higher than the RT-L. Honda reengineered the TrailSport suspension for 2027, giving 9.6 inches of ground clearance versus 8.3 inches on the RT-L.

What gas mileage does the 2027 Passport get?

The RT-L is EPA-rated at 19 city, 25 highway and 21 combined mpg. TrailSport trims are rated at 18 city, 22 highway and 20 combined. All run on regular unleaded fuel and have an 18.5-gallon tank.

What engine is in the 2027 Honda Passport?

Every trim uses a 3.5-liter direct-injected V6 rated at 280 hp and 258 lb-ft, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

Does the Passport RT-L have a heated steering wheel?

No. A heated steering wheel is standard on the TrailSport and TrailSport Elite, but not the RT-L.

Does the Passport TrailSport have ventilated seats?

No. Ventilated front seats are exclusive to the TrailSport Elite and Elite Blackout, which also add heated rear seats.

Does every 2027 Passport have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto?

Yes. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with Google built-in, Alexa Built-in, a wireless phone charger and a 12.3-inch touchscreen.

What's new on the 2027 Honda Passport?

TrailSport trims get a reengineered suspension with 9.6 in. of ground clearance, a resculpted front end and amber hood lights. The TrailSport adds TrailWatch and a heated steering wheel, the Blackout package adds black fascias, and Smoke Blue Pearl replaces Obsidian Blue Pearl.

How much cargo space does the 2027 Passport have?

Every trim has 44 cu ft behind the second row. With the rear seat folded, the RT-L offers up to 104.6 cu ft and the TrailSport trims up to 104.4 cu ft.
